Coonrod Wrecker and Crane Service based in Ceder Rapids Iowa brought in a 100-ton Link-Belt HTC-86100 to remove a 180-year-old tree after powerful storms ripped through Iowa and the midwest.

The homeowner stated he heard, “Just a big crunch and some broken glass and we felt the ground shake,”

The massive pine tree crushed the home, but help arrived when Coonrod Crane of Cedar Rapids used their 100-ton crane Telescopic Boom Truck Crane to lift sections of the tree. CJ Hauling, of Lisbon, cut-up, and rigged stumps so the Link-Belt crane could lif  One crane rigger stated it was the tallest tree he’s ever worked on.

Crane lifting with trees is especially tricky because the weight of tree sections cannot be determined before the lift.  It is advisable to rent a higher capacity crane to ensure the job runs smoothly.

The homeowner stated,  “Another reason it had to be so much (money) is that the crane had a longer reach and Coonrod Crane wanted to be sure that crane wasn’t going to move,”

“I think it’s around $500 bucks an hour and that’s when they leave and when they get back,” Maurice said.

The family is living in a camper on their property, staying hopeful they can get back in their home soon. They have also applied for a grant with the State Historical Society.
