(Cranes, Hoists & Material Handlers : Rough Terrain Cranes)

Grove GRT550 Specifications

Released in 2025, the 55t US Imperial Ton (50 mt) maximum lifting capacity Grove GRT550 rough terrain crane offers one of the longest five-section telescopic booms in its class. The compact size allows easy transport between job sites, making it suitable for tight lifting work areas where long reach is needed within a very compact lifting footprint. The GRT550 features a high-visibility updated operator crane cabin design,  with a 12’’ (30.5 cm) touchscreen, and a CCS display that provides the operator with an ergonomic and productive workspace.

CRANE FEATURES

  • Max Capacity: The crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 50 t (55 USt).
  • Boom Length: It is equipped with a five-section MEGAFORM main boom that extends from 9.9 m (32.5 ft) to 39 m (128 ft).
  • Max Tip Height: With an optional 8 m (26 ft) fixed swingaway jib, the maximum tip height can reach 49 m (161 ft).
  • Engine: The crane is powered by a Cummins QSB 6.7-liter diesel engine with an ECO mode for reduced fuel consumption and emissions.
  • Drive and Steering: It features a 4x4 drive-and-steer system, including crab and coordinated steering modes, enhancing maneuverability on jobsites.
  • Operational Weight: The gross vehicle weight (GVW) is under 29 t (65, 400 lbs), making it road-legal across Europe in many cases without requiring special permits.
  • Control System: It uses the popular, intuitive Manitowoc Crane Control System (CCS) with a 12-inch touchscreen display, including a Boom Configurator Mode to simplify lifting operations.
  • Compact Design: The narrow 2.55 m (8.4 ft) width and overall length of less than 12 m make it highly suitable for work in tight or congested areas.
  • Enhanced Performance: It offers improved load charts and a line pull of up to 5, 552 kg (12, 240 lbs), up from 4, 000 kg (8, 818 lbs) on its predecessor, the RT550E.
  • Operator Comfort: The redesigned cab offers improved visibility and comfort, creating an ergonomic, productive workspace.
  • Advanced Diagnostics: The crane is supported by Grove CONNECT telematics and oCSI diagnostics for technician-friendly service access and remote management capabilities.
  • Durable Warranty: All new Grove GRT models, including the GRT550, come with a two-year standard warranty.

Manufactured at the Niella Tanaro factory in Italy. The GRT550 succeeds the Grove RT550E and continues its legacy with the longest boom in its class. Additionally, the GRT550 boasts enhanced load charts and a variety of new features.

The GRT550’s five-section boom with TWIN-LOCK and MEGAFORM retains the 39 m reach, with a 49 m tip height possible with the 8 m offsettable swingaway extension. The maximum capacity is 50 t, and there are overall load chart improvements over the RT550E. The GRT550 also offers an impressive line pull of up to 5, 552 kg – an increase from the 5, 100 kg offered by the RT550E. In addition, it requires fewer lines, speeding rigging time, and enabling a maximum line speed of 155 m/min (an improvement of 43 m/min).

Even with these performance improvements, the new crane remains lightweight, with a GVW below 29 t, allowing for road transport across Europe without permits. Its compact 6.9 m-long, 2.55 m-wide carrier enhances transport and job-site setup, and the new Site Steering mode simplifies handling. An updated outrigger system boosts stability and performance, with Smart monitoring of the single-stage outrigger beams contributing to a generous 6 m spread. The MAXbase™ variable-position outrigger system increases 360° load capacity and offers greater flexibility on congested jobsites.

A new, more comfortable cab with high-capacity HVAC has also been adopted. Visibility has improved – particularly to the boom – and there’s a three-camera system available as an option. Operators will appreciate the improved setup, which includes an adjustable heated seat with armrest-mounted joystick controls and the new 12 in CCS 1+ touchscreen display. Power comes from a proven, reliable Cummins QSB6.7 engine, which features an ECO mode for even higher fuel efficiency.
