CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A worker at Coastal Precast Systems died after being run over by a large gantry crane Tuesday morning, police confirm.
The accident happened in the 1300 block of Yacht Drive in the South Norfolk area of Chesapeake.
Kelly O’Sullivan with Chesapeake Police confirmed the fatality with 10 On Your Side, and said the employee, a 49-year-old man, died at the scene.
O’Sullivan says a preliminary police investigation has shown that the incident appears to be accidental.
She adds that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be doing its own investigation to determine if there were any safety violations.
Emergency responders were alerts to the accident at 8:55 Tuesday morning.
