Work on an expansion to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is becoming more visible as a new Potain Tower crane erected by Maxim Crane with an All Terrain Crane prepares to swing into action.
In May 2019, Carilion announced a $300 million expansion to Roanoke Memorial, including a new tower to care for emergency and heart patients, a new behavioral health hospital across Jefferson Street, and a parking garage and pedestrian skyway to connect it all.
According to Robins & Morton, an Alabama construction firm that is managing the Crystal Spring Tower project along with Roanoke-based Branch Builds, the crane will be the second-tallest structure in the area. (Downtown Roanoke’s Wells Fargo building stands 320 feet tall.)
