JERSEY CITY – Authorities say a worker at a Jersey City rail and shipping facility was killed when a container crushed the machine he was operating.
The man died around 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Norfolk Southern facility.
Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill says that initial reports indicate the incident happened when the wire that’s part of the lift snapped. However, the official cause of the incident is under investigation.
The worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the man worked for H&M International Transportation. His name was not disclosed pending notification of relatives.
A Norfolk Southern spokesman says the company is cooperating with investigators to determine what caused the accident.
OSHA has also been notified.
