WSAU reports Caterpillar has set the date to close its Prentice, WI facility. Workers will be laid off starting September 30th.

Caterpillar announced earlier this year they’d be closing their Prentice Forestry products facility in Prentice as part of a global restructuring. Forestry equipment had been manufactured there since 1945.

Operations will be moved to other locations in Victoria, Texas and LaGrange, Georgia. Caterpillar is closing more than 20 sites worldwide this year as a cost-cutting initiative.

Because of the number of layoffs in Prentice Caterpillar was required to notify the Department of Workforce Development. 150 people are employed there.

There were reports in February that Ritalka, Inc. of Minnesota was negotiating to buy the Prentice site. There have been no further updates on the possible sale.
