No longer in production, the Link-Belt HC-238A is a conventional lattice boom truck crane manufactured by FMC Corporation's Crane and Excavator Division, now supported by Link-Belt.  Highly regarded for its durability and heavy-lifting capacity, this conventional mobile crane is widely used in heavy industrial construction, steel erection, and high-reach rigging applications.

Crane Specifications

  • Maximum Lift Capacity: 140 US tons (127 metric tons).
  • Maximum Boom Length: 230 feet (70.10 meters) of main tubular boom.
  • Maximum Jib Length: 70 feet (21.34 meters).
  • Maximum Tip Height: Approximately 300 feet when combining full boom and jib extensions.
  • Materials: Boom chord members are crafted from 100, 000 p.s.i. quench and tempered high-strength alloy steel.

Lower Crane Carrier and Mobility

  • Drive Configuration: 8x4 drive layout spanning a four-axle carrier frame.
  • Main Transmission: Roadranger 15-speed transmission allowing highway travel up to 42 mph.
  • Auxiliary Transmission: 2-speed system providing ultra-low precision job-site travel down to 0.8 mph.
  • Suspension: Full-floating walking beam support to maximize traction across uneven ground. 

Mechanical Features

  • Features a multi-piece removable counterweight system equipped with hydraulic lowering to minimize transport breakdown time.Counterweights
  • Functions: Full-function gear train design enables simultaneous or independent crane operations.
  • Control System: Powered by a "Speed-o-Matic" power hydraulic control system for responsive handling.
  • Dual Engines: The upper and lower diesel engines are typically Cummins or Detroit Diesel engines, each independently powering the lower driving and upper crane operations.
