The Terex Peiner SMK 308 is an 11, 000 lbs. (5, 000 kg) lifting capacity self-erecting tower crane with a 137.9' (42 m) jib. While no longer in production, this towable tower crane is supported by Terex TC. Manufactured between approximately 1996 and 2002, this bottom-slewing, self-erecting tower crane is widely used in construction for its rapid on-site deployment. 

Key Specifications

  • Max Lift Capacity: 5 metric tons (approx. 11, 025 lbs).
  • Max Reach (Jib Length): Up to 45 meters (147.6 ft), though commonly configured at 36 or 42 meters.
  • Tip Capacity: Approximately 1.1 metric tons (2, 425 lbs) at its maximum reach.
  • Hook Height: Standard hook height is roughly 28 meters (92 ft).
  • Power Requirements: Operates on 480V, three-phase electric power. 

Operation and Design

  • Self-Erecting: Designed for quick setup without needing a larger assist crane for the entire assembly.
  • Bottom Slewing: The entire mast and jib rotate from the base, which is supported by screw jack outriggers.
  • Variants: It was produced in different versions, such as the "City Version, " which features a tighter tail swing radius (approx. 2.5 meters compared to the standard 3.6 meters) for confined urban job sites.
  • Controls: Typically operated via radio or corded remote controls. 

Crane History

The crane is part of the Peiner line, which Terex acquired in 1998. While the SMK 308 is no longer in new production, many units remain in operation or are available on the used market.
