Mr Mundell was joined by Airdrie and Shotts MP Neil Gray, UK Export Finance senior export advisor Jon Boyce and Scottish Enterprise representatives Mick McHugh and Cameron Ritchie.

Terex Trucks, a division of Volvo Construction Equipment, has been operating in the area for over 65 years manufacturing off-highway articulated and rigid trucks from start to finish at the factory before they are exported all over the world and used in mining, quarry and construction sites.

The VIP group was given a tour of the factory where they witnessed the production of some giant vehicles.

Some of the trucks being built may soon end up in Asia after the Volvo CE Hub Korea announced last month it was now offering customers two rigid dump trucks manufactured in Newhouse.

The visitors also had the opportunity to meet some of the workforce including finance director Kevin O’Donnell, HR director Paul Tierney, head of technology David Maslin and Volvo Construction vice-president Andy Knight.

This wasn’t the only recent visit to the factory as a delegation from Maskinentreprenörerna (ME), the association of Swedish Earthmoving Contractors, were in Newhouse earlier this month to receive an overview of the company, a factory tour and a drive on the trucks.
