Peru’s Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano said that the expansion of the Cerro Verde mine represents more than a five billion dollars investment in Peru and proof that mining development is possible under the current investment environment.
“This expansion of Cerro Verde proves that mining in Peru is possible while respecting the law, complying with environmental standards and also something that is very important, generating wealth,” he said.
During the Monday’s official expansion ceremony he said the investment of five billion dollars will give a boost to the Peru’s national economy.
In recent years it was remarked that safe and environmentally friendly mining was not possible in Peru. This project proves the opposite, yes mining development in Peru is possible while respecting the environment” , He said.
The head of the Peru’s Cabinet added that “In Peru you can do massive works projects” because the Cerro Verde mine is among the five largest in the world.
