As reported earlier, here many individuals and groups registered concern about a proposed Cincinnati Ordinance that would have banned cranes working within city limits if they were more than 20 years old. Several crane manufacturer groups argued successfully that proper inspections and maintenance are the true factors in the safety and lifespan of a crane, not age. As a result, the Ordinance – as passed by City Council – contained no provision regarding crane age.

Insurance limits in the Ordinance were also modified to better reflect industry norms. Under the passed Ordinance, crane operators must be certified and people who work around them must undergo safety training. A crane had tipped on a downtown Cincinnati construction site in February 2016.
