DMI traces its roots back to the J.L. Healy Construction Company, which incorporated in South Dakota in 1932. For 57 years the company concentrated on Highway Construction, and Utility work within the Midwest. In 1982, Pat Healy, J.L's son and CEO of the company, formed the Equipment Distributorship now known as Diesel Machinery, Inc. (DMI). The construction company was sold in 1989 as development of the equipment distributorship advanced.

Dan Healy, Pat's son now directs the operations of DMI as President. Dan started with the company in 1989 and has held various positions of increasing responsibility. With the help of Dan Rude (G.M.) and many other long term employees, DMI continues to stay focused on achieving its mission. 

Central Texas Equipment Company was founded in Austin, Texas in 1946. After 52 years in business, the company was merged in 1998 with Crescent Machinery Company in Dallas, Texas. In 2004, the company was spun off by Crescent Machinery in a management buyout and reemerged as Central Texas Equipment. The “new” company is owned by Andy Tewell, Chris Tewell, Walter Kurowski, and Bob Henry and represents such major manufacturers as Elliott Hi-Reach, Terex, Manitex Cranes, Dynapac, LBX Excavators, Superior Sweepers, Doosan Compressor and Epiroc attachments.  Central Texas Equipment moved to Pflugerville, Texas (a suburb of Austin) in 2005. Central Texas Equipment is a stocking dealer for both complete machines and parts for the lines it represents as well as having a service department of factory trained shop and field mechanics.
